Parental Information

What Every Parent Must Know:

 

Heritage Seminars are unique educational experiences which study Jewish ancestral roots, research the sources of Jewish life in Eastern Europe and identify with our heritage.

Heritage Seminars was conceived as a seminar with special emphasis on the richness of the cultural contributions of Eastern European Jewry before the war and their demise during the Holocaust. Heritage is not simply a "concentration camp" tour- although extensive study time takes place at Treblinka, Belzec, Majdanek, Plaszow, Auschwitz and Birkenau. Full study days are spent in Warsaw, Cracow, Lublin the "shetlach" of Galicia. Evening programs and analysis takes place day. All programs include orientation and advance preparation.

Heritage Seminars excel at meticulous planning in the areas of curriculum, resource materials, logistics, staffing, strict kashrut requirements, medical, security and orientation.

Heritage Seminars is staffed by a noted group of historians and educators. All seminars are accompanied by holocaust witnesses, resident medical and Israeli security staff.

Application and Deposit Deadline: December 15, 2010

Late fee registration for both deposit deadlines and final registration $100

Fees include air, land arrangements. Mehadrin meals, medical and security staff, gratuities. Educational materials, and orientation program. Heritage Seminars reserves the right to change resitration fees at any time prior to departure in the event of significant changes in flight fees, fuel costs, hotel fees, or changes in the EURO or DOLLAR that warrant such a change.

Non-refundable $300 deposit to be rendered by CHECK, payable to Heritage Seminars, CASH, or NIS-CASH. Please do not remit deposits by credit card.

Final payments to be rendered by CHECK or CREDIT CARD, payable to Heritage Seminars, CASH, or NIS-CASH. Please check "How to apply" section for forwarding address of final payment

NO POST-DATED CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED AS PAYMENT.

Registration will be considered complete only after all payments are completed and all checks cleared.

Heritage Seminars reserves the right to cancel, alter or change any aspect of the seminar without prior notification to the registrant. This includes the quoted fees to participant in the event that air and/or land fee changes precipitate such a change.

Rules & Regulations

Security:

1. Room service is forbidden.

2. Do not use the phone in the hotel room. The hotel charges are prohibitive. Use the phone in the lobby.

3. Do not speak to "friendly" strangers in the lobby, or reveal itinerary or timetable information.

4. Do not ask for anything to be delivered to your room or accept delivery of anything to your room.

5. Do not accept mail or packages from strangers for delivery to "relatives" in Israel or in America.

6. Lock your room at all times - even during brief visits to the rooms of other students. When leaving, always take your passport, money, plane tickets and any special medication that you have.

7. Report to the security agent any suspicious items or any suspicious individuals in the hotel.

8. Avoid illegal monetary transactions.

9. Never leave your passport, tickets or money on the bus.

10. Always know in which room the security person, the Doctor, and the Director of Heritage can be found.

12. Never leave the group during the daily tour.

13. No smoking, drinking or use of drugs of any kind without the resident physicians authority.

14. Notify your parents that contact with them by telephone will be difficult.

Medical: All students attending Heri

Heritage Seminars are covered by medical insurance. Students are advised to bring medications that are prescribed to them. Heritage Seminars is accompanied by an attending physician.

In the event of medical emergency, do not move the injured party. Only authorized medical personnel may administer medication and medical attention. Have your medical information with you at all times. Avoid drinking water from the tap for the first day of the trip. Boiled water, mineral water, and coca-cola are all fine.

Food: 1. All food served on Heritage Seminars is Strictly Kosher- Glatt Mehadrin, under the supervision of Rabbi Michael Yamer.

2. Eggs, mineral water, juice, margarine, vegetables and fruit are purchased in Poland and have been checked for Kashrut.

3. Cheese, bread, milk, peanut butter, tuna, corn flakes, and all meat products come from Israel.

4. Bring nosh, chocolate and high protein food. Heritage will supply mineral water daily.

About the Itinerary: The itinerary developed by Heritage Seminars reflects the collective experiences of the educational staff, and the input of students who have attended the program. All itineraries are subject to change without notice due to: weather-related conditions, changes in flight schedules, hotel availability, security or medical related issues. The decision to change or cancel any part of the itinerary will be made only by the Director, after consultation with the educational staff, security personnel.

A Word about the Camps:

There is no way to prepare fully for such a visit, nor is there a way to predict reactions to the camps. Some students will approach the camps as an academic investigation, while others will tour the camps alone, expressing visible signs of emotion. All reactions - or the lack of them - are normal and to be expected. You will need "space" to absorb and collate the experience on your own terms.

Please Read Carefully: Heritage Seminars reserves the right to cancel a student's participation in the seminar at any time due to violations of rules and regulations, security or medical reasons, or behavior deemed inappropriate by Heritage. Said student will be sent back their point of origin, will not receive any refund of fees, and will be responsible for all related expenses incurred by Heritage Seminars due to dismissal from the program.
