High School Programs
Heritage High School Seminars are unique educational experiences which study Jewish ancestral roots, research the sources of Jewish life in Eastern Europe and identify with our heritage. Through extensive visits to the destroyed centers of Jewish culture and scholarship and a course of creative academic study that takes place throughout the seminar, participants strengthen their Jewish identity, awareness, and commitment to the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Students spend 1 week in Poland and 1 week in Israel in a custom designed program coordinated by the Israel Studies Institute. Heritage was conceived as a seminar with special emphasis on the richness of the cultural contributions of Eastern European Jewry before the war and their demise during the Holocaust. Heritage is not simply a "concentration camp" tour- although extensive study time takes place at Treblinka, Belzec, Majdanek, Plaszow, Auschwitz and Birkenau. Full study days are spent in Warsaw, Cracow, Lublin the "shetlach" of Galicia. Evening programs and analysis takes place day. Heritage High School Seminars are designed for juniors and seniors in high schools. Affiliates include the Israel Studies Institute, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. All programs include orientation and advance preparation. Heritage Seminars excel at meticulous planning in the areas of curriculum, resource materials, logistics, staffing, strict kashrut requirements, medical, security and orientation. Heritage High School Seminars are staffed by a noted group of historians and educators. All seminars are accompanied by holocaust witnesses, resident medical and Israeli security staff. Heritage currently serves these institutions: Ramaz School - NY, Yeshiva of Flatbush, Westchester Hebrew High School, Hillel Yeshiva, Magen David Yeshiva, North Shore Hebrew Academy, and CAJE Colorado.
